HOW YOU CAN LEARN TO DO ACCENTS

Why do I start well but take a ‘geographical tour’ of other places?

Where do I begin? What am I listening for? How do I get the right sounds? What about the different rhythms and tunes? What about those vowels … and what happens to the consonants? How can I sound ‘real’? How do I keep it going?

You CAN do accents.

I thought accents were about the voice but they are about the attitude and body language that you bring to the character. I am watching people and listening so differently – and seeing so much more now.’  Ana Clements

Day 1

Day 1 of this workshop will cover how to approach an accent, practice it and stay believable.

It will include how to change your:

  • ‘body talk’
  • tune and rhythm
  • tone and vocal ‘culture’
  • vowels and consonants

It will also help with how to source good samples to work from.

What’s included – A day working with one of the best vocal coaches in the UK and getting a full accent breakdown and feedback as well as; handouts and also lunch.

An accent is a whole structure, comprised of so many elements that Yvonne really took us on a journey. Yes the accent and how to develop it is important but so too are the settings (where your cheeks, jaw, tongue are placed), location (is the geography cold/hot/noisy), history, journey the accent took.’  Lorraine Ansell

Day 2

Day 2 will cover how to do an RP / Standard English Accent

This will follow on from HOW YOU CAN LEARN TO DO ACCENTS (see content for that day).

Whether you want to polish your RP accent, learn it from scratch, or use how we will work on RP to provide a good practice base for learning a range of other accents, the course will aim to meet your individual needs.

This practical one day workshop will enable you to move from your own accent base specifically towards authentic RP. Individual feedback will be given throughout the day.

What’s included – A day working with one of the best vocal coaches in the UK and getting a full accent breakdown and feedback as well as; handouts and also lunch.

RP voice over artist Emma Wheeler loved it, ‘Brilliant accent workshop with top vocal coach Yvonne Morley. Three days of perfecting and fine tuning our standard RP accents. Yvonne is a true vocal Pro who discussed the many articulators and their uses, whilst we also learned about vocal health. A vital workshop for any Voice Over Artist.’

Day 3

How you can learn to do a General American Accent
